The evening also had music from the 1953 Coronation to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Canoldir performed favourites such as You Raise Me Up, Let It Be Me, The Rose and American Trilogy and also specially commissioned pieces such as Gloria with Felicity Murphy. Black Voices performed a varied selection of pieces with also some favourites such as Bridge Over Troubled Water. The Bournville Junior School Choir performed a selection of songs from Mary Poppins and wartime favourites such as It's a Long Way to Tipperary and Pack up your Troubles.
The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we wish to give a big thank you to everyone who came along to support us.
York Trip
![]() Canoldir recently returned from a mini tour of York over the Jubilee Weekend where we performed at venues such as York Minster Cathedral, St. Wilfred’s
Church, Harrogate, Harewood House and the Yorkshire Air Museum. On Saturday we gave a recital at the prestigious York Minster Cathedral and was then kindly invited to a Jubilee Garden Party at Gray’s Court Hotel, a beautiful hotel right next to York Minster where we also performed a few songs. Later On Saturday we gave a concert at St. Wilfred’s Church in Harrogate where we were warmly received. On Sunday we performed at Harewood House as part of their Jubilee celebrations. We performed a recital in their State Gallery and despite the rain it was a good turn out. After this performance we headed off to the Yorkshire Air Museum where we performed a small concert in a large hanger there surrounded by aircraft. We then returned by coach to Birmingham, thrilled to have been given the opportunity to perform in such wonderful venues and were very thankful to all the support given. ![]() _RNLI supporters filled Sutton Coldfield’s Town Hall for its main fundraising event of the year, a Celebration Concert
performed by Canoldir Male Choir.
Musical Director and Conductor James Llewelyn Jones directed the choir through a lively and varied programme ranging from 'Ave Maria' to 'The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves', from 'Can’t Help Falling in Love' to 'What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor'. Local young violinist Jody Smith delighted the audience with her solo performances. A Year 10 pupil at Edgbaston High School for Girls, she has recently been invited to join the National Youth Orchestra. Alan Worrall, Baritone, also sang solo. The audience together sang 'Eternal Father, Strong to Save' as befits the lifesaving charity. Jill Carter, Branch Chairman, said: 'We had a great night at the Town Hall, but it was with a serious purpose - to raise funds for the brave volunteer lifeboat crews who are on call 365 days a year to save lives at sea. The RNLI believes that the crew members deserve the very best possible equipment to support them, and the funds raised at the concert will help towards replacing lifejackets. I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us.' (Author: Carolyn McLaughlin, Branch Guild Press Officer - RNLI News Release) |
